The concept of ‘co-creation’ is embedded in the way IHI works. When it comes to ideas for potential new call topics, this means that we welcome suggestions from the wider health and research community. We have set up the IHI Ideas Incubator to make it easier for people to submit ideas, and for IHI to assess them.
But what makes a good idea for an IHI call topic? How can you submit your idea? And what happens to the ideas we receive?
“We’re looking for innovative and ambitious ideas that address unmet public health needs and will help IHI to achieve its goals,” said Dr Hugh Laverty, IHI Acting Executive Director. “Good ideas will also require large-scale collaboration between different industry sectors and public and private partners and, crucially, deliver clear impacts on society, the economy and science.”
Got a good idea? Here’s how to submit it to the Ideas Incubator
If you have an idea that you think fits the bill, the first thing you should do is read the advice on our Ideas Incubator web page. Next, you should draft your idea using this Word template, which also includes advice on how to prepare your idea. Finally, copy and paste your idea into our web form and submit it. Note that you can’t save or come back to this web form later, so it’s important to have everything ready in the Word template first.
Once we receive your idea, IHI staff will check it is complete and is in line with our objectives. Ideas that pass this first check are reviewed by the IHI Science and Innovation Panel (SIP), which is made up of experts from diverse sectors, disciplines and stakeholder groups. Ideas that receive a positive review from the SIP are discussed by the IHI members and may be developed further as part of an IHI call topic.
All ideas that are reviewed by the SIP are published on the IHI website, so make sure your idea doesn’t include any confidential information! You should also be aware that even if your idea is incorporated into an IHI call topic, the fact that you submitted the idea does not automatically entitle you to participate in the resulting project or receive IHI funding. More information on these points can be found on the Ideas Incubator page.
